The Wicked Sow Evil in the Fields of the Righteous

Matthew 13:24-25 ESV  He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field,  (25)  but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.

I drove by a house the other day which set off a memory from many years ago. My wife and I had visited there because the couple, who had been attending our church, invited us over for the afternoon. We had a great time and I really liked them.

Within just a few days that all changed.

They stopped attending our church. They did not respond to my calls. And when I happened to run into them at the store a couple of weeks later they were absolutely cold to me, muttered a few words, and moved on.

I found out later that a very wicked man who we had been dealing with in the church, had “befriended” them and unloaded all kinds of lies about me, about the church, about…just everything. And they swallowed it. They were done with us. I don’t think I ever saw them again. Just that fast a hopeful friendship was destroyed.

Most of you have had this happen I am sure. A wicked person – often an evil abusive spouse – spread deceitful lies about you and your family, your friends, your church, even your children – believed them. The enemy did this. He came in the night and sowed evil seed. Fools bit, hook, line, and sinker.

An evildoer listens to wicked lips; a liar pays attention to a destructive tongue. Proverbs 17:4
unfortunately I have been brutally slandered with the best of them. It is very hurtful to be accused of evil that one did not do. I remind myself that no pupil is greater then His teacher. This kind of behavior by the wicked use to reduce me to a pile of crying tears, but I guess the more I have been through the more I am able to let their evil ugliness roll right off my back. I guess what I am trying to say is when your own loved ones (family that you thought loved and supported you) slanders you and steals from you in the end days, nothing else shocks me. I was accused of the most outrageous and horrendous lies just because I follow the REAL JESUS. God will correct them in the end as He can’t stand a liar!

  2. This happens all the time in my extended family. They invariably accuse before seeking the other side of the story. They are all PKs too, their progenitor exited his denomination over issues of ‘regard for truth’. So it’s really hard to see people who supposedly come out of a heritage of truth fall so easily for incomplete perspectives. Even that secular ‘doctrine’ of “check your facts before reacting” would help them avoid making the mistake of being a weed.

As the Devil has set out to undermine all of God’s good work in creation, the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ is to undo (break up, dissolve; destroy [lusē] the works of the Devil (1 Jn 3.8).

One key rule in communication and relationships is that you first double check information, and take nothing for granted. In the Bible it’s called discernment, watching and proving the spirits. It’s also a sign of maturity.

That this couple took on board fake second hand information about you Jeff so quickly only shows that they were immature in their character and walk with God and they were easily bewitched as Paul said to the Galatians. So sad…

I can’t even keep count of all the people my abusers alienated from me. It really hurts at the time, but God gave me other ‘wheat people’ to keep growing with, and the promise that He will separate the wheat from the tares in the end.

This aleniation is one of the many colateral damages abusers cause and which so many people don’t understand at all. There’s primary abuse like tremors, earthquake, but then comes a tsunamy… and the terrible devastation that ensues.
